Hi, i was born in Thornbury Hospital and lived in Ribblesdale for 14 years of my life before emigrating to Australia in 1986. It was so great to look back on all the things that are part of me, even though i have never been back yet. It would be great if you could put some school maps on here also and other land marks such as mundie playing fields etc. Keep up the good work.

GREAT to see
this, lived here 36 years, not long enough to know many folks YET as this is
THORNBURY after all...and not famous for outgoing matey folks (like us
Northerners) BUT I wonder how many folks appreciate how lucky they are to live
HERE, NO through traffic, no ghettos (YET), pity about the "vandalism"
and young folks disorder on the weekends. IT IS A LOVELY TOWN - no doubt about
that and you have done a great job - Would be a pleasure to let you have some
pic's for your site...
Thanks to the "GAZETTE" for the article otherwise I would not have
known about it
Best of luck to you and your enterprise..

Your site is
impressive and very interesting.
I live in Suffolk
My father was in a military hospital near` Bristol' from late 1917 for a period
of at least some months.
I have now come into possession of a group photograph showing about 40 soldiers
and 40 nurses or visitors, taken during that time.
No buildings are visible but a friend in Bristol has seen the picture and
suggests that the lie of the land, behind the group, may indicate Thornbury.
Was there ever any kind of military hospital in or near Thornbury ?
I should be grateful for any comment.
Best wishes
Bill

A really great
website - and hopefully with more to come! Please keep up the good work.
Both my paternal and maternal families are of Thornbury and surrounding
villages.
Although myself not moving to Thornbury until 1953 and Rockhampton since 1969, I
have fond memories of school holidays in the town and district
where I have traced my paternal family line world-wide to 1650. The family name
is recorded locally to 1389.
I am researching the history of Rockhampton where I have been a Parish
Councillor for many years and a past Chairman.
Also I am Steward of the ancient Manor of Rockhampton.
I played cricket with many local lads both for Rockhampton and Alveston - happy
days!

I just learned that my ancestors came from Thornbury in 1832 and settled in Toronto, Canada. They were piano and organ manufacturers and the family name is Thomas. It's nice for me to see the town where they lived. Now I hope to visit there myself.

Very good site. I grew up in the small town of Thornbury in Ontario Canada. It is about 100 mile northwest of Toronto on beautiful Georgian Bay. Population 1,400. Apple growing, fishing, and downhill skiing are all close by. We had always heard there was also a Thornbury England and thanks to your website I was able to locate your town and enjoy the many photos, past and present. The town of Thornbury Ontario has now been merged with other small communities into a larger Town of the Blue Mountains. You may enjoy the web site.. town.thebluemountains.on.ca Once again well done.
